DESTIHL’s story began in 1995, when founder and CEO Matt Potts brewed his first batch of beer at home. What started as a personal passion quickly evolved into a long-term pursuit of brewing and hospitality.

In 2007, DESTIHL Restaurant & Brew Works opened in Normal, Illinois, founded by Matt and Lyn Potts, along with Troy Nelson, Laurie Nelson, and Jason Bratcher. Built on a vision to bring together craft beverages, food, hospitality, and atmosphere into one cohesive experience, DESTIHL developed a distinctive identity inspired by modern industrial design, blending clean lines, raw materials, thoughtful functionality, and creative energy into spaces that feel both approachable and boldly original.

As demand for DESTIHL’s products grew, the company expanded beyond its restaurant origins. In 2013, DESTIHL opened its first production brewery, followed by the launch of its current production brewery and beer hall in Normal in 2017. These milestones marked the Company’s transition from a local brewpub to a broader beverage production and hospitality business.

DESTIHL has continued to evolve, expanding distribution across multiple markets and growing its capabilities. In 2023, the Company launched Canopolis, a contract brewing and canning operation. In 2024, DESTIHL entered the distilled spirits category with the launch of DESTIHL Spirits.

Today, DESTIHL operates as a diverse beverage and hospitality company, blending craft drinks and culinary experiences with a commitment to innovation while remaining rooted in the creativity, craftsmanship, and hospitality that started it all.
